Sacred Sleep Rx

Guests review the night, not just the view.

A sleep partnership for short-term rental hosts in Joshua Tree, Twentynine Palms, Yucca Valley and Wonder Valley. Your listing already sells the desert. I help your guests sleep in it.

What the research says

When guests sleep better than they expected, they rate the whole stay 114 points higher on a 1,000-point scale. Only 29% of guests get that night.

Of the guests who did, 78% said they would definitely return to the same property. The biggest drivers weren't amenities or décor. They were the bed, a quiet room, the pillows, the room temperature and the linens.

Why desert hosts are adding a sleep partner

People come out here to rest

Most of your guests are escaping the city to recharge. If they leave tired, the stay missed its point, no matter how good the photos were.

Desert nights have their own problems

Big temperature swings, dry air, wind, loud coolers and a sunrise that floods east-facing rooms early. A room that looks perfect at 4 pm can sleep poorly at 3 am.

Reviews remember the night

Guests rarely write about the parking. They write about how they slept, and one rough night colors everything else about the stay.

Repeat guests start in the bedroom

Guests who sleep better than expected are the ones who come back. That means fewer empty nights and less paid effort to fill your calendar.

Every listing shows the view

The sky, the boulders and the hot tub are on every listing in the Basin. A property known for deep, quiet sleep stands apart in a crowded search.

A clinician, not a salesperson

You get advice from someone with 23 years in clinical sleep medicine, with no required product list. Most fixes are simple, and many cost little or nothing.

The night, from check‑in to checkout

I walk your rental the way your guest lives it: by the clock. Each point is something I check, and something your guest will feel whether or not they can name it.

  1. Check-inFirst impression of the bedroom: light, smell, clutter, and whether the space tells a guest to slow down.
  2. Sunset and dinnerLighting that can dim warm instead of bright white, so the evening winds down on its own.
  3. Lights outBlackout at every window, small glowing electronics covered, and a bed that suits most sleepers.
  4. QuietCooler and HVAC cycling, wind on the windows, a fridge hum through a thin wall. Noise is where sleep breaks.
  5. The cold hoursDesert temperatures drop hard overnight. Bedding layers, thermostat settings and humidity for dry air.
  6. Sky brighteningEast-facing rooms light up early. Guests should wake to sunrise by choice, not by accident.
  7. CheckoutThe review gets written. It will mention the night.

Who you'd be working with

Rene Rubira. Coming to this desert since 2003, and now calling it home.

I grew up among Joshua trees in the Antelope Valley in the '80s and '90s, in Lancaster and Quartz Hill. The high desert was the backdrop of my childhood long before I understood what it was teaching me.

In 2003 I started coming out to Joshua Tree and the Morongo Basin, and I never stopped. I brought each of my kids to the park when they were young: a father-son trip when my son was about nine, and a father-daughter trip when my daughter was about the same age. Recently I brought my granddaughter here at two years old. Three generations of my family have now fallen for this place.

After more than twenty years of visits with family and friends, my wife Tenaya and I bought a cabin in Wonder Valley, under some of the darkest skies in the region. Part of my family lives here in Twentynine Palms too, and over the years this community has given me real friendships and partnerships I'm grateful for.

I came to know the people here by working for nearly two years with a high desert nonprofit, bringing meals to seniors and neighbors across the Basin. That work is how I came to know this area as a community rather than a destination, and it's why so much of what I build now is meant to give back to it.

My professional life has been sleep. I've spent 23 years in clinical sleep medicine: running sleep studies in VA hospitals, working on sleep research at UCLA, taking part in an NFL sleep apnea program, setting up in-home sleep studies across Southern California, and serving 8+ years as VP of Patient Services at a national home sleep testing company.

Today my focus is bridging the gaps between sleep treatment options, connecting the different specialists who treat sleep so that every patient can find the path that fits them and build a foundation of truly great sleep.

As part of that, I'm Chief Sleep Health Ambassador at WakeWell, a dental sleep medicine practice in Downey founded by Dr. Henry Qiu, where I build referral partnerships with physicians for oral appliance therapy, an alternative for people who can't tolerate CPAP. I'm also building a pathway for commercial drivers flagged for sleep apnea at their DOT physicals, working with certified medical examiners so drivers can get tested and treated faster, stay certified and keep our roads safer. Closer to home, I'm working to bring better access to sleep care to the Morongo Basin.

Outside of sleep medicine, I'm a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and a plant-based athlete. I'm a ceremony leader trained at Wind Walkers in Joshua Tree, and a bilingual English and Spanish NLP practitioner, so I can work with hosts and guests in either language. I bring in ceremonial cacao direct from a farm on the slopes of Chichontepec in El Salvador, finished here in the high desert and shared through Root of the Sun and Resonance Cacao. And I host The Sleep Over Podcast.

It all comes back to the same things for me: rest, rhythm and connection. Sleep Partner is where all of it meets. When your guests rest well here, they leave loving this desert the way my family does, and that's good for everyone who calls it home.
